01.05.10 | Tree Planting @ Morningside Park

Enter Morningside Park, the stretch of green spanning a large portion of Scarborough’s eastern side.  The park is one of the few large stretches of naturalized areas along the Highland Creek watershed featuring a large mixture of micro habitats from forest to swamp areas.

At the beginning of May, Centennial College, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and members of the community come out to Morningside Park to work on rehabilitation projects and past years  saw large efforts in tree planting to reinforce and vegetate the streambanks to mitigate the on going erosion.

Tree planting was on the itinerary again this spring but with the intentions of increasing diveristy by re-introducing some native species into the more open/degraded regions.
